Costa Rica TEFL meets ITEFLAC´s strict and rigorous accreditation requirements and meets international standards.
All of our teacher trainers at Costa Rica TEFL must have a Master’s Degree in Education (or higher) and at least 5 years of teaching experience, 2 of which must be in EFL / ESL. They must also be native speakers and demonstrate the ability to effectively teach adult learners with a variety of educational backgrounds. Our teacher trainers have designed a customized course based on their own experiences with TEFL / TESOL courses, educational training and years of classroom contact. In addition to the actual course content, teachers will assess the specific needs of the trainees and include tailored workshops as necessary.
Our goal at Costa Rica TEFL is to instigate a passion for teaching and to aid our trainees in the acquisition of the necessary expertise to be skillful, compassionate, creative and most importantly, effective English teachers.A good teacher never stops learning and is always open to trying new techniques and ‘tricks’ of the trade. Each student is different from the last and the excitement of reaching them and helping them to learn something new is what keeps the passion for teaching alive. A good teacher has to love what they do in order to excel at it. Every new class you receive is like a new canvas, you have to first observe and understand.
It is our vision to train teachers continue to learn and take an active position in research and investigation in the art of pedagogy. We envisage that our teachers will go on to demonstrate a true passion for what they teach, and a genuine interest in their students. Good teachers offer a variety of activities in order to reach a variety of learning styles and maintain a classroom environment, which makes the students feel comfortable and eager to learn. The best teachers are the ones that take the time to get to know their students and make an effort to treat them like individuals; not just names on a roster.

Costa Rica TEFL has an intensive 160 hour TEFL course which includes 11 core modules of the TEFL curriculum (outlined below). The curriculum is taught in a hands-on, small group discussion classroom (no more than 8 students per class) in which trainees are encouraged to actively participate and share their learning experiences. Active class participation and application of the curriculum is expected throughout the course. Trainees must successfully complete a final exam that covers the core curriculum and its application in the EFL/ESL classroom. Trainees must plan for and teach from 10 to 20 EFL hours to our local Costa Rican students. Trainees teach in 1.5 to 2-hour blocks and are observed by their teacher trainers and peers.
